South Main Street, c. 1880, looking west. On the left is the Bank Building, colored red; the fenced area further up the street is the grounds of the Glendon Hotel, now the Post Office. the building on the near right was Moses F. Thompson's Dry Goods Store, later Lewando & Mattison Grocery & Hardware Store; this building was later moved to the rear to build the Peavey Block (now known as the Avery Block). On the right is the Town Liberty Pole, a prominent landmark for many years. Over 100 feet tall, it was a gathering place for speeches and special announcements. The card was published by Tobey's Pharmacy, which opened in 1907. This caption has been updated as a result of the comment below. Thanks, Paul.
