This postcard was created c. 1915 and indicates the scene is 30 years prior. The Lady of the Lake was taken out of service in 1893 (see description on previous card). The two-story and one-story buildings belonging to the Boston and Maine Railroad were destroyed in a massive fire in 1899. The fire also destroyed the Lady's wharf, the large Goodwin Block on Main Street, several smaller structures, and embers set the roof of the Bank Building on fire. Also interesting is the closeness of the water behind the buildings; filled in later, that is now the Dockside parking lot.
