Post Office Square, named because the Post Office was in the near corner of the tall building, originally called the Peavey Building, now commonly known as the Avery Building. Interesting mixture of cars and horses; note the horse watering trough at the lower right. The building on the left was Dr. Edward H. Thompsons' Pharmacy. The small building next to it was Kalloch's Confectionary & Ice Cream Parlor, and also the office of the New England Telephone & Telegraph Company. These date from the late 1890's to the early 1900's at this location. Those buildings underwent considerable modifications and additions over time and were finally taken down and replaced in 1993. Postcard is c. early 1900's.
