Rededication Ceremony of the Governor Wentworth Road, Aug. 11, 1936. L-R, Fred Stackpole, Maj. Leigh Harvey, (Old Home Week chairman), Robert Merritt, Harold Hart (local automobile dealer), Gov. H. Styles Bridges, Josephine Rust (who unveiled the marker), Jasper Palmer (who planned the marker), and Dr. Frederick E. Meader. Within a few months, the sign was shot apart by an unknown vandal. Governor John Wentworth was well-liked and progressive. The road was later extended to Dartmouth College. If not for the Revolution, his mansion could have become the Governor's Palace, and Wolfeboro the Capitol, of the Province of New Hampshire.
