From the late eighteenth century to the present day, organized religious groups have been an important part of life in Wolfeboro. The two earliest were the Baptist Church and the Town Church, both formed within hours of each other, with different ministers, on October 25, 1792. Many churches have formed and disbanded over the years. Organized religion was irregular in the early years, as there were issues with transportation and work. Clearing the land, farming, building houses and basic survival were major time consuming issues. By the mid-1800's, religious activity picked up as the community developed and many churches became established.
The Wolfeboro Historical Society welcomes the donation of local photographs from the early days, as well as any details that may be found in ancestors attics.
