The third step in ice harvesting is to lift out the cut blocks of ice. This tripod setup uses tongs and leverage. From here, the blocks are loaded on a horse-drawn skidder, taken to a storage barn, and stacked with hay between layers as insulation. A commercial operation might have used multiple saw cutters and mechanized loaders for a higher production, but the principles are the same.
