Wolfeboro Historical Society Digital Archive |
The history of the Clark Museum Complex on South Main Street goes back to 1917, when Greenleaf B. Clark donated his residence to the Town of Wolfeboro to become a museum. The town failed to follow through. In 1925, the Wolfeboro Historical Society (WHS) was formed with the intent of preserving the house and opening it to the public. A 99-year lease was signed in 1927 and the museum was formally opened in 1929. The WHS added the Pleasant Valley one-room Schoolhouse in 1959, a Firehouse Museum in 1981 and an 1820's Barn in 2018, and the title, Clark Museum Complex, now properly describes this extensive collection of four buildings, each fully furnished with exhibits of the period.
