Lake Wentworth is the largest lake completely in the Township of Wolfeboro. Pleasant Valley, on the south side, was an early well-developed agricultural community, while the north side was developed as a farm and estate of Colonial Governor John Wentworth. Over time, the popular lake attracted summer visitors and agricultural activities faded, but Pleasant Valley still retains several large farms.
