This view is from the downtown bridge looking at South Main St., c. 1888. Note that Brewster Memorial Hall, built 1890, is not in the background. On the left is the C. F. Piper Clothing Store (now known as the Wool Corner), then today's Black's Paper Store, and the original Bank Building (prior to the arched windows). The building known as the Wool Corner displays the original Greek Revival style, with two stories of pillars. Those were removed in an extensive remodel in 1925 when the front was extended. In the trees is the Glendon House, now the site of the Post Office. On the right is the elegant Goodwin Block, burned down in 1899 and replaced by a simple one-story building.
