Lewando & Tilton grocery & hardware store, June 1903. Founded in 1899, Joseph Lewando and Wilbur J. Tilton operated under this name until 1922, located in the right corner of the Peavey Block (now Avery Block) on South Main St. The site had previously been the Lewando & Mattison store. The left window has a large display of Moxie bottles, remember those? In 1905, the business began deliveries to Lake Winnipesaukee islands and shorefront cottages using their own boat, aptly named "Grocer".
